Professor Oliver Hauser

Professor of Economics and UKRI Future Leaders Fellow, University of Exeter

Oliver conducts research on inequality and cooperation in three main domains: organisations, society and the environment. He is a Professor of Economics in the Department of Economics at the University of Exeter. Oliver is a UKRI Future Leaders Fellow, leading this ambitious seven-year “BIG IDEAs: Using Randomised Controlled Trials to Reduce Bias in the Workplace” initiative.

At Exeter, Oliver is also the interim Co-Director of the Institute for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence and a faculty affiliate of the Centre for Leadership. In addition, he serves as academic advisor to MoreThanNow, and he is an academic affiliate of the Behavioural Insights Team (“Nudge Unit”) and of the WAGE Network of the UK Government Equalities Office. He is currently also Vice-chair of the BBC Children in Need South West Advisory Committee.

Previously, Oliver taught and researched at the Harvard Business School, Harvard Kennedy School of Government and Harvard Extension School. He also held Research Fellowships at the Women and Public Policy Program and the Behavioral Insights Group, both at Harvard. He received his Ph.D. in Biology from Harvard University in 2016 and his B.Sc. in Physics from the University of Innsbruck in 2010.

Dr. Cansın Arslan

Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Exeter Business School

Cansin received her doctoral degree from the University of Goettingen (Germany) in 2020. Prior to her doctoral work, she worked as a consultant for the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and a field research associate for the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL).

She received her Master’s degree in Quantitative Economics at Paris School of Economics (France) and Bachelor’s degree in Economics at Yeditepe University (Turkey). She also earned a MicroMasters program credential in Data, Economics, and Development Policy from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MITx).

Her research interests include behavioural economics, development economics, and policy evaluation.

 

Gemma Baker

Research Project Support at the University of Exeter Business School

She received her Master’s degree from King’s College London in 2002 and her Bachelor’s degree in Biology at Plymouth University in 1999.

She has worked at the University of Exeter since 2016, supporting and coordinating numerous research projects. She coordinated a global food security research project and supported a research project which studied the evolution of cooperation and culture in humans. Prior to her work at the University, she worked within the NHS and Local Government as a community health improvement practitioner in various roles, including health behaviour change trainer, health & well-being advisor, healthy weight management practitioner, cycling and walking project coordinator, community vegetable boxes scheme coordinator, community healthy eating coordinator and active living support worker.

Her work interests include health inequalities and health and well-being in growing older, individuals, families, communities and society.

Guin Carter

Graduate Research Assistant at the University of Exeter Business School

Guin has a first-class degree in Politics from University College London (UCL).

After graduating they worked as a researcher for Team Up To Teach, an NGO working on improving non-formal education for refugees in Europe. They have also volunteered extensively teaching English to refugees. Guin is an environmental activist and has been featured across several media outlets in this capacity, including BBC News and The Guardian.

Their research interests include behavioural economics, environmental economics, and critical theory.
